I’m fed up with coward conferences that do not possess a conference championship game. The Major Conferences should put their foot down this
off season and lay down this ultimatum either have a championship game, add a 9th conference game or your automatic bid into a BCS bowl game will be revoked.
Conferences like the SEC and the Big 12 year end and year out take a major risk while the Big
Ten reaps the rewards. Had the Big 12 not had a conference championship game Mizzou would be in the championship game and Ohio St. would be in the Rose Bowl. I’m not moaning about Mizzou not being in the BCS Championship game I’m just trying to make a point. To further that statement I will say on the record Mizzou does not disserve to be in the BCS Championship Game, they did not earn it but neither did Ohio St.
The Big Ten Conference (See Big Eleven Conference) is smart though they enjoy not having a conference championship game. Instead of adding a 12th team and a
conference championship game they would rather be cowards and worm their way into championship games. Why don’t you be big boys, add a sacrificial lamb 12th team. They do not even have to be good (See Duke).
Some conferences like the Pac-10 (See Pac-11) have it right. They do not play a conference championship game but they do play 9, I repeat 9 conference games. 9 conference games where every year 4 or 5 teams are powerhouses. I have respect for there philosophy. Playing against 9 rivals every year is tough (See Stanford vs. USC).
For Christ sakes the Big East has 8 mediocre teams. They only play 7 conference games and no conference championship game. Every year they can schedule 5 non-conference cup cake games. And this is what the BCS deems an automatic BCS bowl bid conference?
Oh who am I kidding, money makes the world go round. Money is the driving force for the BCS and the NCAA. Myles Brand is the 2nd incarnation of the Devil. It is sad but that is the way of the world (See Notre Dame).
