Heisman Voters Get It Right

It’s good to see that someone in college football knows what they’re talking about when it comes to who the Heisman finalists, unlike the beloved BCS. Tim Tebow wins the Heisman trophy on Saturday night becoming the first sophomore in Division 1A football. Darren Mcfadden finished second in the voting for the second straight year. Colt Brennan finished in third after leading Hawaii to an undefeated season. And fourth was Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel who has led his team to the best offense in school history.

While many of us are terribly unhappy with the BCS it is good to see that when it comes down to it people still know the game and are capable of getting it right. The BCS is in my opinion a terrible way to determine who plays for the title, and this year is exactly the reason why. Neither of these two teams truly deserves to be playing in this game. I could ramble off a number of teams that could blast Ohio State out of the stadium, much like LSU will do. Namely those teams are in no particular order, the Missouri Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, Hawaii Rainbows, USC Trojans, should I go on?

I have heard the grumblings of you Kansas fans trying to say that Todd Reesing deserved the invite more than Chase. There is an ok argument there based on the season and the numbers that Todd Reesing had. Look, I hear you. But your in the Orange Bowl and Missouri went to the Cotton Bowl so I say its even. You tried to defend the strength of schedule point but I am sorry you just can’t. If Chase Daniel would have played with the 106 hardest schedule out of 119 do you know what the numbers would have been? He lit it up with a tough strength of schedule, if he would have had the schedule Kansas did Chase Daniel would be holding the Heisman trophy.

It’s just a great thing to see that when it goes strictly with the voters and not some complicated mathematical equation. People can still get it right just fine by themselves from time to time. If only four people were to be taken this year, then these four young men were the four that should have been chosen. I fully believe that these are the four most deserving players to be invited to the presentation. Though arguments can and will be made, no one can say that these four did not deserve it. Maybe you felt someone else should go and that is your opinion, but these four handled themselves like professionals all season. The members of the NCAA that believe the BCS system is good please take a page from the Heisman voters. We need to vote in a top eight, have a playoff system and we need to incorporate that into the Bowl season some how so the pockets can still be lined and we can actually have a true champion every year.
