Chase Daniel was shut out of all the post season awards he was eligible for. Tim Tebow took home the Heisman, Maxwell award (Most outstanding player), and the Davey O’Brien award (National Quarterback). Darren McFadden won the Walter Camp for Player of the Year. Overall the SEC took home ten of the eighteen national awards. This is proof of the national bias towards the mighty SEC.

There is no arguing that Tim Tebow is a wonderful talent, but is he really a better quarterback than Chase Daniel? Tim Tebow is an outstanding athlete that put up numbers the college football world has never seen this past year. Contributing for 51 TD’s in a single season is an unfathomable number, but Tebow accomplished this feat. This number in my eyes is a bit skewed. 22 of the 51 TD’s were rushing for Tebow. I am not knocking the rushing TD for a quarterback, but I am calling into question the quality of these rushes. Sixteen of the 22 rushing TD’s were of five yards or less, and only two of the 22 were over nine yards; proof that Florida’s offensive coordinator, Dan Mullen, looked for the Tebow sneak almost every time they were inside the ten. It’s not a bad thing, if it works, by all means continue to roll with it, but this does not make Tebow the best quarterback in the nation.

Chase Daniel had over 1,000 more yards passing than Tebow and a very similar completion percentage. Daniel had ten interceptions to only six for Tebow, but this is again a mirage of a number because Daniel had 223 more passing attempts. Dave Christensen, Mizzou’s offensive coordinator, takes more risks down field than Florida which requires a much more accurate passer. Tebow is a great athlete, but if you are looking for a better quarterback, there is no doubt Daniel is the choice. Until the national media realizes that the SEC is not everything college football has to offer, players like Daniel will continue to take a back seat to the QB sneak specialist.
