After the Rams loss to Pittsburgh their record fell to an abysmal 3-12. The Rams could draft as high as 1st overall and as low as 7th overall. They will most likely land the 3rd pick drafting behind Miami and Atlanta.
Darren McFadden, Arkansas Running Back, will most likely be in the first draft pick should he leave college early. That leaves two monster linemen Michigan OT Jake Long (6-6, 320) and DT Glenn Dorsey (6-2, 292) that should be drafted #2 and #3.
The prospect of having Adam Carriker, Glenn Dorsey and Will Witherspoon controlling the middle of the defensive field is exciting. A healthy offensive line of Orlando Pace, Alex Barron, Richie Incognito and Jake Long is also very exciting.
If the Rams draft Glenn Dorsey the defensive line will be sound with Little, Dorsey and Carriker. The Rams will still need to acquire a DE opposite Little. There linebackers will also be sound anchored by Will Witherspoon. The Rams will need to acquire an impact cornerback.
Should the Rams select Jake Long they will be much improved on the offensive line. The offensive line would consists of Pace, Long, Incognito, Barron, McCollum and Steussie. Outside of line help the offense should be effective. The Rams will still need to sign and draft depth at offensive line.
The good news is the Rams will shore up one hole on either the Offensive or Defensive line. The bad news is the Rams still may have too many holes to fix in one off season.
Even with the holes on the offensive line, Glen Dorsey is the better choice for the Rams. Along with Carriker and Witherspoon the Rams defense will be extremely tough up the middle. Championship teams are built around defense. Regardless who the Rams draft they will still have to sign linemen on both sides of the ball as well as immediate impact secondary help. If Dorsey is taken before the Rams select Jake Long would not be a bad consolation prize.
