The Motor City Bowl features the Purdue Boilermakers vs. The Central Michigan
Chippewa's. Have to like the Purdue Boilermakers in this game as they have far superior talent at most skill positions, with the exception being quarterback Dan LeFevour of the
Chippewa's. He has completed 66.4% of his passes this season, for 3,360 yards and 23 touchdowns. He is rivaled by Boilermakers quarterback Curtis Painter who has completed 62.2% for 3300 yards and 26 touchdowns. All these numbers are comparable, LeFevour is a more accurate passer, but Painter plays on the more talented team.
Purdue dominates Central Michigan in just about every category as a unit. Purdue’s offensive line is what sparks there air attack as Curtis Painter often has a lot of time to throw. That is good for the Boilermakers and the spread offensive that they run, which was ranked 18th in the country. Central Michigan is 32nd in the country in offense which should make this a very high scoring affair. Both of these offenses can put points on the board and playing in the dome at Ford Field should help things along a lot.
Purdue is ranked 60th in the nation in total defense, while the
Chippewa's are ranked 106th. While the Boilermakers have a better defense then Central Michigan, they are not all that great either on that side of the ball. They give up a little over 385 yards per contest. While both offenses will put up points, the key to this game is which defense will step up and make some big plays in order to help the team win. Also, look for the rushing attack of Central Michigan to be key as the will try to keep that spread offense that was installed by Joe Tiller off the field.
